Pianist, Composer, Music Minister
Janie was born and raised in Oklahoma by loving parents, who were musically gifted and active in their local Baptist church. She has more than thirty years experience in piano instruction, music arranging, studio recording of original piano compositions, and performing as a solo artist. Janie moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1997, where she still resides today, and has been recognized both domestically and internationally for the successful releases of her recorded music CDs. She is known for composing touching music from her heart. Janie received her Bachelor of Music Degree with Distinction in Piano Performance from the University of Oklahoma in 1979, and her Master of Business Administration Degree from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1994. She recorded her first original piano music CD entitled, “a gift from janie”, that rose to #13 on the New Age Voice album chart in 2001. It has been played on radio stations around the world and was also produced and distributed in China and Taiwan. She recorded her second original piano music CD entitled, “Heavenly Whispers” in 2003, and both CDs are utilized by Hospice grief counselors, church groups, Reiki classes, massage therapists, acupuncture therapists, hypnotherapists, and individuals. Her music continues to be played on the internet broadcasting station called “Whisperings” at www.whisperings.com, where she has been part of this solo pianist community past 12 years. Janie played piano for the 6:00 pm Mass services for 7 years at St. Lucy Parish in Campbell, CA, and currently plays for the weekly 4:30 Mass services at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in San Jose, CA.
Janie also plays piano with fellow musician/singer, Katherine Petrucci, as a duo called "Two Hearts One Song". Both serve as weekly music ministers for the 4:30 Saturday Mass services at the Cathedral Basilica. They work together composing and arranging original music set to prayers and scripture, and their first composition, “Walk With Me” was used for the “Opening of the Holy Door” at the Cathedral Basilica in 2016. They continue to compose together songs that have been used in weekly liturgies. As a duo, they are also known for their work in funeral ministry and for providing music for weddings. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Katherine moved to San Jose, California in 1963 where, from the 2nd Grade, she sang as a soloist and played at St. Christopher’s Church in San Jose, CA.
In high school she was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Choir and Concert Choir.
She married in 1983 and became a member of the St. Lucy’s Church Adult Choir in Campbell, CA. During her time in the St. Lucy Choir, she was often chosen to be a soloist for Masses. For the last 22 years, Katherine and her husband, David, have been serving as music ministers for the 9am Sunday Mass at St Lucy’s Church. She has been the music leader and soloist, and she plans music to fit the liturgical themes of the season and mentors teen cantors. Katherine also created the Funeral Ministry at St. Lucy where her team meets, consoles and coordinates the liturgy.
She has been recognized by many for her incredible natural singing talent and beautiful voice, and also, her gift of sensitivity toward others. Her ability to connect with people through her gifts of music as well as her heart is widely known by those who have worked with her through the years.
Katherine and Janie Horton came together 7 years ago. As the duo, “Two Hearts One Song”, they are known for beginning the healing of grieving hearts through music. Katherine and Janie also extend their joyful hearts together in music by celebrating the beautiful occasions of life such as joining loving hearts as one in marriage. They began composing music shortly after meeting and their 1st composition “Walk With Me” was used for the Opening of the Holy Door at St Joseph’s Cathedral Basilica in 2016. Currently, they continue to collaborate, composing music to engage the assembly.
Katherine has worked professionally as District Sales Manager for San Francisco Bay Area retailers with an emphasis on sales and marketing, specifically graphic layout and design for marketing materials. She has used this experience to create free programs for liturgies including funeral and wedding ceremonies.
